From the foothills of the Andes
The Bodegas Salentein was founded in 1995 by Meindert Pon from the Netherlands. Situated in the Valle de Uco, it is recognised as a pioneer for viticulture in this area, which lies about 100 km to the south of Mendoza. The over-riding aim here is to produce first class wines, always with respect for nature as the key resource. The wine cellars are surrounded by 700 hectares of their own vineyards at heights of 900 to 1,700 metres above sea level at the foot of the mighty Andes. José Galante, appointed Chief Winemaker in 2010, is recognised not only as one of Argentina’s most influential oenologists, but one of the icons of modern wine production. With over 30 years’ experience, he knows the Valle de Uco like few others and his name is directly associated with the transformation in Argentinian wine style since the 80s. The wines of the Bodegas Salentein are authentic terroir wines that act as ambassadors for the Valle de Uco highlands and embody part of this country.
