Weingut Walz - sustainability for 300 years

As a 14th-generation winemaker, Thomas Walz is a true Baden native. Thanks to his extensive experience and deep roots in the region, he produces wines of the highest quality.

»Do ane« has been the philosophy of the Walz winery in Heitersheim, Baden, for over 300 years. »Do ane«  is Alemannic and means something like »That's where we want to go, that's where we're headed.« This expression is emblematic of daily life at the winery, which has been farmed organically, of course, since its founding.

Working in harmony with nature is a top priority for the Walz family. For this reason, the vines are cultivated according to the guidelines of controlled organic viticulture without artificial fertilizers and chemical pesticides.

The favorable location of the winery, nestled between the Rhine plain in the west and the foothills of the Black Forest in the east, additionally offers excellent conditions for wines of distinctive character. Thomas Walz is a 14th generation winemaker and runs his winery while preserving traditions that have been passed down through generations.

At the same time, development never stands still for him, as Thomas now successfully grows Piwi grape varieties. These fungus-resistant grape varieties need less to no pesticides, are adapted to the new climatic reality, and meet the taste of the consumer in the 21st century.

He is already one step ahead of many winemakers in this respect, as his latest cuvée consists of the trend grape variety, Pinot Gris, and a Piwi grape variety, Souvignier Gris. The Pinot Gris gives the »White Walz« body, nutty aromas and fullness as the Souvignier Gris rounds this off with a pleasant acidity and fruit.

Thomas Walz is also one of the winemakers in the »Für mich 100% Genuss« line and is thus represented in both our MackEditions and MackWines portfolios.
