Das Jungwinzertalent aus Baden
At home in the Ortenau region, along the Black Forest and the Rhine plain, Johannes Kopp is one of Baden's great young winemaking talents, bringing Riesling and Burgundy varieties to new heights. Converting to controlled organic viticulture in 2019, the winery's philosophy focuses on closeness to nature and environmental protection. The winery is repositioning itself with a view to an enjoyable and successful future. With the opening of a barrique cellar, a vinotheque and a restaurant in 2022, the winery will become a tourist attraction in the Ortenau region. Johannes' estate wines demonstrate character and structure. His spontaneously fermented wines are characterized by their soil and reflect their origin. A very special highlight are his wines from the Feigenwäldchen - a monopollage: Riesling vines up to 70 years old are rooted here on 4.8 hectares of red sandstone soil. The steep and barren terraces, which are cultivated entirely by hand, represent the prime piece of land. Limited to 1,300 liters, the Terrassen-Riesling ferments spontaneously for twelve months in barrels and then matures. It owes its beautiful name to the 70 or so fig trees that have been growing and thriving here for decades.
