Bodegas Trapiche

New World vineyard of the year

The Bodega Trapiche, Argentina’s major vineyard, has been synonymous with wines with a highly concentrated character for over 135 years. With its home in Mendoza, the centre of Argentinian viticulture, the vineyard is famous for its first class wine-growing areas at the foot of the Andes. Rainfall is scarce at the vineyards, which are located at heights of up to 2,300 metres. The vines are irrigated by glacier water and hand-picked in the shadow of the snow-covered mountain chain. This guarantees the permanently high quality since the glacier water provides optimal irrigation in what are sometimes desert-like areas. Argentina’s hot days and cool nights foster a good acidic structure and produce expressive, full-bodied and fruity wines with ageing potential. Daniel Pi, a luminary in Argentinian viticulture, has been Chief Winemaker at Trapiche since 2002. Close collaboration with the wine-growers is his top priority. The grapes come from the producer’s own vineyards and are harvested by over 200 wine-growers from the best wine-growing areas in Argentina.
